Re: 10th World Congress of the IAALD on the challenges
facing the community of agricultural information professionals in the third millennium,
Dakar, Senegal, 24-28 January 2000
Dear Delegate,
The World Congress of the International Association of Agricultural Information
Specialists (IAALD) will, for the first time, be held in Africa, from 24 to 28 January
2000. After forty-five years of IAALD activities, the 10th Congress will need to examine
the challenges facing the community of agricultural information specialists as we enter
the third millennium. The Congress must also, again, draw the attention of the
international community to the main socio-cultural, technological and economical issues
with which agricultural information professionals are, and will continue to be,
confronted. More specifically, this gathering will need to examine the following points:
- the implications inherent in implementing agricultural
information policies and strategies,
- the development of strategic cooperation and alliance
activities designed to promote access to and use of agricultural information.
The members of the IAALD Executive Committee asked me to
extend this invitation to you, so that the work of this 10th Congress may be further
reinforced by your presence. The members of the Executive Committee would, in addition, be
very honoured, if you were to agree to speak to the audience on a subject related to one
of the four priority themes:
- Technological changes and revolutions
- Isolation and professional adaptation
- Economic crisis and its impact on information services
- Collaboration and partnership
